self-monitor
By Julie

Clip to ScrapBook
I am working on a system to have kids rate or self-monitor their own behavior. I work with younger kids so I use pictures. For one student we are working on raising his hand instead of calling out. There is a box with a raised hand and a happy face and one with a yelling person and a sad face. Each time her raises his hand he gives himself a point in the happy face box,a nd if he yells out he gives himself a point in the happy face box. The first goal is just to get him to be accurate. Then we make goals for how many points he needs in thehappy face box an eventually decrease points in the sad face box. There are other self-monitoring systems also. I like them cause it helps the kids be more aware of their own behavior.
