Hello...I read your post and I thought, great, but reading further, I was put off.

Pen Pals are pen pals..Why does demographics matter so much to you? So what that you're in an affluent community. Do you mean that children
in non-affluent communitites, or, what you think is affluent are not worthy, or cannot write to your children?
I've read many pen pals posts, and yours is the first I've come across, that has requested a so-called "very affluent community."
Perhaps you would find what you are looking for if you posted exactly how much money the students' parents need to make in order to reach

your standard of what affluent is. As you well know, affluent has more than 50 different meanings, because affluent in one state is not the same as affluent in another state.

I truly hope that you have not sent this message to the students that you teach. If you have, I feel very sorry for the students in your class room.

The purpose of "Pen Pal" is to find another classroom in any part of the country or world that has the same age range as your class of students. After that, nothing else matters. Children are children and will enjoy writing to each.

I am a very proud teacher who has taught many children. The demographics of what my students are or are not does not matter to me when I seek Pen Pals for them. My goal is to reach out to another class to find out something new.

Perhaps it would do you well to rethink the message you are sending to your students. I can only hope and pray that they do not think they can only correspond with another class who's parents make the same amount of money as their parents.
