Clip to ScrapBook
I teach special education and co-teach regular education. I would not recommend using the phonics approach. Usually by this time they have been through phonics. I would recommend using the whole language approach or a cloze procedure. It works really well with students with disabilities. I have two students that are dyslexic and they really struggle. There is also the 4-block reading method (this is probably my favorite and works well with the whole class and allows you to work at different levels discreetly.) Try talking to your special education teacher to see what she recommends. Every child is different what works for one may not work with all. Lots of luck!!!!
