Clip to ScrapBook
Don't worry about whether they like you or not, or think you're mean. Students want and need structure. I have a chatty group this year.
Today I told them I was getting very upset and expanded on the necessity of being
"good listeners" etc. in my very stern, close to, but not quite mean voice. Well they all got quiet worked hard and within the next half hour I had about 5 "you are wonderful" pictures on my desk.
At a workshop on classroom management, the instructor said occasionally it's good to let the kids see a CONTROLLED tantrum.
Now do I think I've cured my class and will have wonderful angels
tomorrow. Heck no, but we're one step closer to a mutual understanding.
1st and 2nd graders are very forgiving and love their teachers.
I do have other management techniques in place and the best policy is consistancy in rules but remember Rome wasn't built in a day.
