Please be willing to accept that you may not fully understand the theology behind some of the Catholic teachings. I was a "cradle catholic" who left the church because I thought there was fault in many of the teachings (many| of the same things you reference in your response - "I'm not". After a few years, and a commitment to deeper understanding of the background of the teachings, I decided to "re-convert" to the Catholic church because I finally understood the reasoning behind the teachings. I agree that it isn't usually clear. I agree that some of the teachings sound silly on the surface. They may even | | sound anti-biblical. But please, before you commit yourself to your opinion you may want to seek greater understanding of the meaning behind them. One of the greatest failings of the 20th century Catholic church is, in my opinion, giving the full reasoning behind the teachings. By simply dismissing them on their face value, you are not offering baptized Catholics a chance to fully understand their faith history. When I was in my "anti-catholic" years, I said many things that I now regret. Your message sounds like what I was saying back then. As a teacher of religion at a Catholic institution, you could do your class a great favor by exploring and teaching the MEANING behing the theology - even if you choose to disagree with it.
