THe fifth graders at my school do a unit on the Great Lakes. One of the big hits is a day on the Edmund Fitzgerald complete with the song by Gordon Lightfoot. There is a documentary on the wreck and we found a great web
site to correlate with the words to the song, but I don't have it here.
Also, an old classib book called Paddle to the Sea makes a wonderful trade book tie in to a unit on the Great Lakes. In fact, you can build your whole unit around that book. THere is a thirty minute movie of the book also to end the untit. A company called Beautiful Feet which supplies to homeschoolers have developed
units built around Holling's books. If you teach in a public school you would have to edit some of the Christian oriented content, but it might still be useful.
