My Soap Opera... By "Ms. Nelson"

I recently stopped teaching. I taught for three years in Baltimore City Public School System and it was an interestingly horrible/live changing experience. I love my children, but the bureacracy, nepotism within my school,| etc... was too much. Therefore, I use this site as my soap opera -- to laugh, cry and get frusrated! (smile) Now back to the subject at hand -at my school I had a great OH idea -- I made pamphlets for the parents including: 1)an agenda of the OH, 2) an outline of the day, 3) a supply list, 4) what type of things they should be working on at home and 5) volunteer/participation sheet | | [telling me HOW they would like to contribute to our class EX: making bulletin boards, photocopying, grading papers, reading to the class, attending field trips, helping out at parties, etc...]. To culminate the OH, I had recorded various segments of my class throughout the day -- lining up, going to the bathroom, at art, while I was lecturing, while they were doing group activities, at recess and lunch...They parents really enjoyed seeing their child -- and I think it showed them a good example of "A Day in Ms. Nelson's Class..." Some kids who are ALWAYS misbehaving/off tast -- were doing the same things on tape (it was actually pretty hilarious). My principal came and sat in my classroom, because she wanted to see what all of the "hype" was about. It was one of my prouder moments. [I got the idea off of PT last year].
