How I stay sane
By Connie

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi to you both,

I bet the majority of teachers could also identify with your email. Your comment about worry that people might get mad at you struck a cord with me. I can't believe how parents (mostly smothering mothers)
feel they have the right to rip us to shreds over the slightest discipline we may give to children or the slightest pressure their darlings may feel, ruining their self esteem. Sometimes these crazy mothers come out of no where and I can't find any justification for their actions against hard working teachers. So, I really do understand your pain.

On the other hand, most of

us know hard working professionals and career people who have lost their jobs as the job was outsourced or the company downsized. I think the majority of US workers are walking on egg shells. My husband was one of those hard workers who put in 12 hour days, sometimes 6 days a week. Getting another job that pays well when you are in your 50's and 60's is near impossible. Meeting deadlines, making a profit and staying underbudget are challenges we aren't usually judged on, but those out in business are.
Here is how to stay sane: We need to come to a point in our lives when we realize that life IS SUPPOSED to be a struggle and filled with challenges and hardships. We are disillusioned if we think teaching is supposed to be stress free and calm. People who do life well are the ones who meet challenges as part of a normal life and aren't constantly disappointed when life throws them a curve ball or they get hit with a rotten egg. This may sound idealistic, but it is one of the great secrets of a contented life. I'm not there yet, but I'm working in that direction and don't spend a lot of time being anxious or fretting.
Connie
