Strike
By Amber

Clip to ScrapBook
I, a Kentucky teacher myself, am supporting the possibilities of a strike. I live in Northeast Kentucky and we have been fighting the battle for good or even equitable priced healthcare coverage for over four years. We have
been experiencing the out of pocket costs and no choice of a carrier for some time now and these issues are now being felt statewide. People need to understand that there have been employees in my district that are paying the board of education every month just to work. You need to support our profession and our professionals’ families with this strike. These costs that we are facing
are astronomical and will make it impossible to attract new and keep the excellent staff members that we have in our school systems today. To the people that make the comments, “you do have summers off,” we are not paid for those days either. We are paid for 185 days of work per year only! Our salaries for those contracted days are split up from month to month to help education employees budget better. I work with ladies who work second jobs year round, just to make ends meet. Give people the actual facts. People are misinformed or uninformed about current issues in education. Send them to the KEA website to take a look.

We have got to put this pressure on Governor Fletcher to make changes in healthcare plan. Remember there is strength in numbers. Please be out tomorrow informing the public of what we are actually facing.
