We are not fighting a political battle.
By Amber

Before you begin reading this, read my reply to the thread that you replied to. Then come back.

First of all, this is by far a political battle! I could give a hoot less about politics right now, except for the fact
that I want the Governor and Legislature to agree upon and pass a budget that will be feasible for me to afford. I am engulfed in these healthcare issues that I am facing as a Kentucky teacher. You would be surprised to the amount of members who belong to KEA and who are also members of the Republican Party. KEA gives support to specific issues not specific parties. As to your comments,
you have totally gone way off the issue. We as teachers here in Northeast Kentucky have been paying $600+ per month out of pocket for our family plan of insurance; this does not include the $468 that our local board of education pays monthly for us. These costs are ridiculous, but would be somewhat easier to swallow if the coverage was worth having. A deductible of $4000, do you think this is fair? Our prescriptions do not go toward our deductible either, is this fair? The fact that we have to pay 20% of the doctor visit, 20% of the lab work, 20% of any tests that are ran, 20% of the X-rays, 20% percent of prescription drugs with a minimum of $20. The point that I am making is the fact that we must pay 20% of all procedures preformed during one visit to the doctor is completely unfair. There will be no more going to the doctor and having a co-pay of $15-$30 and prescriptions $20 or $30. These visits would cost over $500. Are these figures fair? Who could afford to go? By the way, we are NOT offered DENTAL OR VISION. How are we expected to live with these costs, go to the dentist and go to optometrist? I would have better benefits if I worked at Wal-Mart or even Dollar General. With the lower salary brackets in this area, how do people like you expect us to do our jobs and take care of our own children with these unfair conditions? Next time before you post, get the facts straight as to why the education employees of Kentucky are considering this strike. If you feel the need to double check my information, feel free to visit the KEA website.
