so for example: we would talk about a book. it's an example of matter, a solid, and then go on to list hte physical properties of that book. do the same for a liquid. show how liquids change shapes by pouring the same cup of colored water into different shaped cups...then have them describe the physical properties of water. gas was very difficult concept for the kids to get. i told them if i could color the air, we would see that it filled up the whole room and takes up all the space it can....still tricky. so then i used a helium balloon to show them.... OKAY, so now for the assessment part of it...what if they made a collage of just solids and liquids? they would cut out pics from magazines and then glue them on the correct side of their chart paper. they can do this in groups and work together. my kids loved this part of it. i almost like the idea of doing just matter and physical properties only. the kids seemed to enjoy it. and we took a long time for it.... when is your observation by the way???
