Couple of ideas (long) By Michaela

Hi, an idea to still do the sundaes for the child who is milk intolerant might be to substitute sorbet for the ice cream. It comes in a lot of different flavors and it can be bought in pints. The parents of the child might even be willing to donate it for their child and you could still get ice cream for the rest of the class. If you want to scratch the whole ice cream sundae idea, other things that I have done, that have worked just as well, have been passports and licenses. With the passports, I made one for each student with a different page for each times table (1, 2, 3 ect.) Each time they | | took a timed test, they stamped the date on the page for the specific times table they were on. If they successfully passed the timed test, I had a completed stamp that we stamped on that page and they moved on to the next table. The kids really enjoyed this and it was very easy to keep track of their progress by looking at the passports. For the licenses, I made and laminated a multiplication license for each student similar to a driver's license. At the bottom of the license, I listed the numbers 1-12. Again, we took timed tests and for each that they passed we covered the number of the times table with a small star sticker until all were completed. When they were done they got to keep the license. Some of the students I had a few years ago tell me that the still have theirs. I hope I have clearly explained these ideas. If you have any questions, please email me!
