end of day

Oh, do I ever know what you mean! My first graders are crazy at the end of the day. We have an early lunch so our afternoon is long, and it is torture coming back from recess or specials. I'm still trying to figure| out what to do, but one thing that has been working has been doing a read aloud and journal writing at the very end. I keep tallies for the quietest table and whichever group wins at the end of the week goes to the prize box. I also pack them up only 2 at a time instead of all at once. Is there any way to get jobs done before recess so that when they come back they are completely ready | |
to go home except for work to finish up and maybe a story? I used to have mine do jobs at the end but they just get crazy, so now we try to do it earlier in the day.Lisa
