Don't overload it

I would avoid overloading the sub folder because most subs don't have time to read and retain all the information in there AND the lesson plan as well. A seating plan is vital (one with photos as well as names is even better);
a brief outline of your attention-getting/discipline techniques, the basic classroom routines (do they line up outside the door and enter all together or do they file in as they arrive and leave in the same fashion...), names of any challenging children ("Mary cannot leave the classroom without another student as she gets into trouble in the halls") and those who can be relied on
for help/information ("Susan, Jeff and Michael are good helpers") and, of course, any child with a serious medical condition. I suppose in some schools, there are very complicated lunch routines - $ to be collected, etc. - but this isn't the case where I teach.
