Integrate!
By Jayne

Clip to ScrapBook
I have integrated all my social studies and science units. That way there is only set of grades to do, and students really understand how history and science are interrelated....for example, when you teach explorers teach
latitude and longitude coupled with magnetism. Use the concept of adaptation to study both animals and Native Americans of a certain region and how they used the resources around them. It takes time to set up the units initially, but once you are finished, it is smooth sailing. I don't use the textbooks except for reference, or for short informational passages. I rely on non fiction
leveled books like you can find at readinga-z.com, or that I order from scholastic. I have been doing this for four years now and I feel it has really gotten my students engaged in the content areas.
