Homework

I don't think you should do away with homework. That just lets the kids get their way. Obviously they don't mind giving up their recess, so you need to implement another consequence. Maybe let the kids know that if their HW is not complete, they will receive an F for the assignment and their parents will be called. (Some teachers suggest giving a 50% instead of a 0 for incomplete HW). If the kids are not doing their classwork, then I recommend giving a participation grade -- if they are not on-task during class, then they do not receive the participation grade. I wish I had some better suggestions. I teach older kids (ninth grade), and I have the same problems with HW not being done. I wish I had the answer.........
