Clip to ScrapBook
I discovered a fabulous book on the problems you described. It is called Literacy Work Stations. The author is Debbie Diller. She says to only assign 2 per work station and train your class very slowly on each station. Do specific lessons on specific behaviors you want to see. It is the 20th day of school for me on Monday. I will be training my class on the fourth work station. I let my independent readers visit the work station while I do whole class reading lessons. We talk about how it went at the end of the work period.I highly recommend Debbie's book. It solves the problems you describe.
