I've been doing MM for 4 years now and keep learning new and effective strategies to use. These are some of the things I did when I first began.

1. Use different colored markers for each sentence
2. Begin with the date
3.
Include the day of the week and the weather
4. Include practice of phonic skills
5. Integrate science, social studies and math concepts
6. Include anything special that may be going on that day. (field trip, special program, birthdays)

This is what my MM looked like today.

Good Morning,
Today is _______________.
The

weather is ____________________.
We have a half day of school today. We will have an early lunch and will be ready to leave at 11:00. Let's name and write 3 things that begin with the letter Rr. 1.___________ 2.____________ 3.___________ Bye, tie and ______________ are rhyming words. Let's have a super half day of school.

After we fill in the MM we then read it completely, count how many words and numbers we read, and decided if we read more or less today than yesterday. I then take a yellow marker and underline various words, letters or numbers and if they can correctly read them I then circle them.

When working on a specific letter I let students come up and circle that letter. I really try to make MM as interactive as I can. If I know a student can write what is needed for the blank or at least the first letter then they get to write it. They love MM and it's such a wonderful learning tool.
