Hi! I have to say this seems typical for a lot first grade classes this year. They seem to be very immature! In 11 years of teaching, this is the roughest start to a year. This class rarely stops talking. I use positive reinforcement as much as possible....but that only goes so far with this group. I switched to the color coding this week - green, yellow, blue, red, and that has helped some. I like the points for extra recess -- I might try it too!
