Chatty Kids
By Jen

Clip to ScrapBook
I have a very chatty class this year. I try to use as much positive reinforcement as I can but that does not always work. On a sentence strip I wrote out the numbers 0 to 10. Each time the class is quietly working I will
ask a child to move a piece of colored hi-lighter tape from 0 to to the number 1 or maybe 2 (depending on how quiet they were). The class can earn up to 10 minutes of extra recess if they get to the number 10 by lunch time. They can also earn points for walking quietly in the hallway and for good behavior in specials.
We have been in school for 4 weeks now and I am really seeing
progress. It is great to see children helping out their classmates with the quiet signal (putting a finger over their mouth) to remind that occasional noisy child to work quietly.
