b's and d's
By Amber

Clip to ScrapBook
I teach First Grade and when I teach how to write the letter b we talk about the words bat , and ball. To play base ball you first have to swing the bat to hit the ball...... So we draw the "bat" first ( pull down straight
) and then the "ball" circle round. Every time we write the letter b we chant as we write, "first the bat and then the ball"

For letter d we talk about how we open a door. "First turn the doorknob" ( circle round ) and then open the door (pull down straight) So as we write the letter d we chant, " First the doorknob then the door"

By the end of the year I usually do not have any

children still reversing these letters.

By fourth grade I would worry about dyslexia being involved. Has this child been screened? perhaps there are other characteristics of dyslexia that she has been able to learn to compensate for so they are not as obvious as the b,d reversal.

I hope the bat, ball and doorknob will help out. Good Luck
