Good book and By Rebecca

This book is a good one that our literacy leader bought for us. It has 25 effective oral reading strategies. It also has teacher views on each strategy and how they used it in their rooms. Readers Theater is one of | my kids favs. This does not require any props, costumes, and such. Students just get a script and they practice all week on their part. Then on Friday, they read the play for the class. You might want to have stands (like music stands) for them to put their scripts on, but that's not a have-to. My kids love this! Think Alouds are basically thinking aloud as you model reading for the | | students. I stop and tell them what I am actually thinking about as I read (example: I am thinking about how I would feel if I were the character..... or I am wondering why she did that.....or that word was unfamiliar so this is how I might figure out what it means......etc.)Read Arounds are where I give each student (usually in a small group setting) a paragraph or part to read, however, they don't read like 'round robin' where they read it without practicing. I give them a sticky note to mark their part. They have time to read it to themselves a few times before actually reading it aloud. Imagery is where I will help them learn to picture what is happening. I talk this aloud as I read a part and tell them what I see. We practice this by me reading aloud text that really lends itself to imagery. We stop, close our eyes, and talk aloud what we see happening. etc. These are a few that I really like. Here is the book that we got. I hope I have helped some!
