Careful, Coach By Jade

Don't start characterizing all elementary teachers as unprofessional. We don't "dump" our kids anywhere. These are scheduled classes with specialists that allow us a fraction of the prep time our high school counterparts| are guaranteed every single day. I expect my class to behave in their special class and I will follow up in my classroom, but while they are in the care of the specialist they are his/her students and his/her responsibility. Now, for the first poster...you need to put into place rules and consequences. This may involve the cooperation and support of the classroom teachers and I would | | certainly discuss your concerns with the individuals. Let the students know that you expect them to be quiet at the appropriate times and refuse to continue until they are quiet. If it takes a discipline slip or detention, then so be it. If you are working with a professional classroom teacher, I am sure he/she will allow you to send unruly students to the classroom--with prior notice of course since our prep time is the only time we have for making copies and phoning parents and I am often out of my classroom during this time--but use this as a last resort. The student may be angling for just such an outcome.Good luck to you, and shame on you Coach for picking on us poor elementary folk. And where in the US can you still find a school where you can smoke anywhere near the building????
