Florida History
By Lori

Clip to ScrapBook
I'm not from Florida, but I have read Lois Lenski's Strawberry Girl which takes place in Florida during the early 1900's I think that might work as a literature tie in. Also, there are several books about the development
of the space industry that might be appropriate. One picture book I can think of that might work would be Floating Home by David Getz.

There are also several books about the Everglades that might be helpful to tie in to a unit.

Books on Cuban/Hispanic immigration might also be appropriate. I know I have read a few, but the titles are escaping me at the moment.

Hurricane by David

Wisner (?sp) might also be an appropriate literature tie-in to the history of some of the destructive hurricanes in the region.

I also seem to recall a book I read about Ponce de Leon and one about St. Augustine, but I can't be sure. I will try to do a search of the books in my database and get back to you.

Good luck,
Lori
