kindergarten
By Linda

Clip to ScrapBook
I have a masters degree in early childhood education and from everything you said in your posting, your child is ready for kindergarten. All children develop differently. What the teachers seems to be is a problem with attention
span may just be that she is bored. Have you considered sitting in and observing what is going on?
Kindergarten is supposed to address the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of all of the children in the class at their own level. Through centers, skills can be addressed on several different levels.
I taught kindergarten last year and I can tell you from
my own personal experience that there were many in my class who had very short attention spans. They are all doing well in first grade this year. I am fortunate enough to work in a small school and can track my students from year to year.
I think that she will be fine. Attention spans develop over time and get longer each year. You may want to address this with your pediatrician if you do not see her attention span expanding over the next couple of years.
Enjoy her while she is five and have a great kindergarten year!
