I've had the same problem. I will give each child and index card with a grid stamped on it. As I am teaching or they are working, I walk around and mark an X in a box everytime I pass and the student is being quiet. At the end of the day anyone who has a full card can post it on the wall. They start to compete to get the most cards up, especially if there is an open house coming up! Every term I take the cards down and we start over.
