they should read aloud
By km

Clip to ScrapBook
The majority of the second grade students that I get are low and they need to read orally everyday. This actually helps their fluency which then leads to gains in comprehension. I want to know what they are reading and how
they are reading it. Even if my students were high and had good skills to begin with I would still want to have daily fluency practice where they read orally.
I know it can get boring for the teacher but choral reading and partner reading and whisper reading are important. You should also stay away from Round Robin type of reading. That only benefits the person who is reading and if
you have a large group you can't ensure that the rest are staying with you while only one is reading. There is plenty of time to read in their heads as they get older and have mastered some strategies and skills.
