Reading buddies
By Sue W.

Clip to ScrapBook
As a remedial reading teacher, I have used stuffed toys to encourage kids to read. Some kids don't like to re-read a story and these kids need more practice. They are eager to finish a story and then to read it to their friend. Even some kids who drone on when reading to a teacher use expression to make it more interesting for their buddy. I would have thought third graders would be a little old for that kind of pretend but they loved it.
Isn't it funny that something you thought was immature is working out so well? So much in the world seems to be pushing kids to grow up fast and we kind of forget how young they really are.
