Here's a cute way to teach kinders how to hold their pencils. First you tell them that their pencil is their body, with the tip being their head. Now they are going to put their body (the pencil) to sleep. They lay their heads on the pillow (which would be their middle finger). The index and thumb are then considered their blankets. They don't put their blankets over their heads (which would cover the tip of the pencil), they put their blankets just beneath their head.
