50% hmmm
By tia

Clip to ScrapBook
i understand the giving of a 50% to not totally penalize a kid--i usually do this when they do an assignment and don't do well at all...

but i don't feel right about giving a kid something (50%) for doing nothing

if i
don't have my lesson plans done, how long do you think i'll continue to get paid for not doing my job?

i teach 6th and responsibility is a big thing, getting them primed for junior high. i have a hard time with this...

i write in student planners when students are missing something (and parents are supposed to check planners every night--and they know i write missing work there), keep

them in from recesses for the day--or until it's done--they receive 25% off for late--so in theory, i shouldn't be giving any zeros since i'm trying to make them get their work done.

i wouldn't keep a kid in for more than a day for missing work--i learned long ago that that is just punishing you--give up on that and take a much-needed and much-deserved break. find a way to communicate with parents and put some responsibility on them--i've had kids call home before--"mom, i'm staying in from recess because i didn't turn in that social studies project. i'm working on it now, but will need to finish it tonight. can you help me remember to do it?"
