I am a Substitute Teacher in Central Indiana working in three school districts--one urban district, one suburban district & an outer suburban district. The urban school district pays $ 75/day & I only work at a selected number of elementary schools. The other two schools districts pay $ 60/day & I am somewhat selective where I work at the suburban district & I am open to working at all of the outer suburban school districts schools. Certainly the way I am received & treated is different at each school district & even at each individual school. I have developed "A", "B" & "C" Lists with the schools on each List based upon the criteria of distance, how I am treated by the students & how I am treated & supported by the administration & staff at each school. I have been subbing for three years. This year I am determined to have good to reasonably good experiences every day. Thus I am very picky & selective about where I work & what grades & subjects I will teach. I ONLY work where I am well treated, appreciated & supported. Developing a criteria & a system has helped. I consider my self a Professional & expect to be treated as a Professional. All of us Substitute Teachers should only work where we are appropriately treated as human beings & professionals.
