pretest before each unit--those that score 85% and above only do the portions that they didn't understand (you can determine your own percentage--i also fudged when i could tell that kids could do the concept, but missed
due to calculation error)

make an independent packet for these kids--you can include more in-depth, enrichment work, as well as harder, more challenging problems. i also added websites kids could do to practice the concept and have fun while interacting...
check over packet when they are done and retest on areas they had previously missed.

i also gave kids some choices:
*move

ahead in the curriculum--only for areas that i wanted them to do on their own (i do too much artsy stuff in geometry for them to miss it)
*make a game to help the rest of the class understand/practice the current concept
*research a famous mathematician and create a project to share--no one ever chooses this; i don't know why
*do additional enrichment in this area
*do some real world math problem solving
*be a student-teacher for this unit--this student/s wanders the room, checking work, stopping to explain to kids processes (we retain 90% of what we learn when we teach someone else)
