Strike pending By NJ teacher

It's illegal in NJ, too. One of the towns in our state had a strike a few years ago, and teachers were jailed. It was terrible. You have my sympathy being faced with a dilemma like that. Having negotiated for my district| recently, I can tell you that health care costs are a major issue here, too. We raised the deductable a few years ago and got mandatory second opinion put in at that time, also. The membership wasn't happy about it, but we had to compromise to get the contract done. This last time, the Board attempted to erode our health benefits, and we stood firm. The Superintendent shared our concern | | that we wouldn't be able to retain and attract good teachers with inferior benefits, and he prevailed. Our negotiations are on a local level, not state-wide. Really, besides our salary, paid health benefits are one of the only monetary benefits of the job. Good luck to you and your members. I hope you stand strong and can prevail.
