Striking is your right and the only way you'll get your fair share. We almost struck in Chicago last year. When the economy was booming teachers were given a measly 3% raise. Nobody seemed to care that it was well under what people in other professions were making. Last year, with the Bush economic miracle in full gear we were told, "sorry it's hard times now. There's no money." I heard from a lot of people, "Look times are hard" and how teachers "are rewarded in other ways." The day that teachers don't have to strike is the day my landlord accepts the grattitude of adolescents as legal tender.
