Homework debate
By oldie

Clip to ScrapBook
A parent who is asking "What should I do?" by second grade (and with 5 kids????)--OH NO!

Involving the principal, over spelling words? Seems like everyone is pulling together and working really hard, EXCEPT the one who
should be working, the KID. She is getting THREE adults bent over backwards by doing nothing.

I've found today's children as a whole care much less about recess than we did--I remember only twice did any student have to stay inside during my fourth grade year. HOLDING RECESS works for only 1/4 of the students.

Try this: Laminate a colorful "HW completed!" card. If the girl completes

her hw, she gets the card to take home. Then back away...

It is not your job to recommend rewards/punishments, it wouldn't help anyhow. The parents must do something (go to room, no TV--this just worked wonders for a student of mine this month, lose video game, no phone, on friends over, WHATEVERfor the rest of that night). Each day should be a fresh start.

I've found the more I did about the less the kid did (thank you John Rosemond for your Homework Hassle book way back when!)
