Where The Wild Things Are
By Lisa

Clip to ScrapBook
One thing I enjoy doing with my first graders is to have them each make a "wild thing" mask before I introduce or read the book. I tell them to use their imaginations and create whatever they think a "wild" thing would look
like. We use paper plates as the basis for the masks. I provide various art supplies like markers, yarn, glitter, sequins, etc. They usually come up with some great masks. We read and discuss the book "Where the Wild Things Are" while we wait for the masks to dry.Once the glue, paint, etc. is dry, I tie or staple yarn to each side of the plate and use the yarn to tie the mask on. Then
we top off the activity by listening to music and having a "wild rumpus" parade up and down the hall. I get to be Max, of course, and tame them all with the word STOP! Every class I have done this with has loved it!
