response journals
By Lisa

Clip to ScrapBook
This is my second year of using response journals exactly as you describe. I am so thrilled with them! I can SEE the improvement in students' writing over time, even without me correcting spelling, grammer, and punctuation in these journals. The kids feel safer that way and are more willing to take chances and actually begin to communicate through writing! And over time, as you respond to their entries, the conventions of writing begin to appear as if by magic. It is also a GREAT way to learn more about each child.
