spuds in tub
By New Zealand

Clip to ScrapBook
you could run a competition in your school .
Each class gets a busket or tub filled with dirt/soil thay also recieve 2 or 3 potatoes that they plant in their bucket(from your collection ). At the end of the term/semester
each class empties their tub and presents their hoard of potatoes for weighing.(the winner is the classes that weighs the most. )
I have done this in a school i worked in as part of a healthy eating study. It also lends itself right across the curriculum. It got quite competitive with classes comming up with magic growth serums or going around counting the flowers on other plants.
It was a lot of fun and the chiildren had to take responsibility for the plants welfare. It was a lot of fun for the teachers as well I have never heard so many potatoe jokes. After it has ended you could make soup. give them to a community garden for seed spuds or devide them up for the children to take home and eat (this is what i did and the children really enjoyed eating their own produce).
Hope this inspires.
