I had that problem
By ccnz

Clip to ScrapBook
I had a kid once that hit his head against a concrete wall when he got a problem wrong!! His parents did not put the pressure on him, but he was also very bright for his age. (Are we pushing our kids too fast? ) We had to
take him and have a serious talk to him about what he could do when he felt that way. we showed him that he could compete against himself, and not worry where his scores stacked up compared to the rest of the class. (it was a year 3-6 class and he was the year 3, so he was way younger than the others anyway). We also taught him that you making a mistake is not necessarily a bad thing, that
it teaches us good lessons. I know how frustrating this can be, but this kid needs to learn to deal with failure. Reality is that we will all face it. We tend to have a culture of letting kids win so that they feel good, but is that teaching them to survive in the real world?
We put so much pressure on kids to get the best scores, but is it really helping them?
