Hi! So sorry to hear you're having troubles! I teach a Pre-First...which is kind of a k-1 (they have gone through kinder but aren't ready for first grade quite yet.) I can tell you what I do to manage my class, see if it might help you.

First of all, I, also have a TA during the mornings. I have arranged it so that I teach my group reading and math during the time that I have her in the room. This way I can group the kids by ability and work with the kids at their level. I make sure they are completing their seatwork by reading the worksheet names to release them for recess. If I don't have it or it's not completed, they miss recess to complete it. This usually ensures that they complete their assignments during the time I give them.

I use the afternoons for group activities. I have mathmath centers at least once, if not twice a week. I have the kids in 4-5 groups and have them rotate through different stations. (I have tangram puzzles, making shapes with unifix cubes, geoboards, computers, I know I have a few more, I just cant remember them right now.) During these centers, the kids must accomplish whatever task I've set. Those who don't lose their recess.

I also will be starting up theme centers in the afternoons twice a week. These are 3 activities that the kids can do on their own, and one where they are with me. I usually have a science, math, art, and me station. I set up the stations once every two weeks, and don't really have to worry about them otherwise.

I'm not sure if this is what you were looking for. As for basic discipline, I use warning, name on board, and checks (lose 5 min. recess, and lose all of their recess.)
