Clip to ScrapBook
Have her parents had her tested for ADD? I know people don't like to admit that possibility, and I don't like to medicate except as a last resort, but it sounds like it needs to at least be addressed. I had a student like
that last year and it was so unfair to the rest of my class (of course, I had 29 students!). He was diagnosed as ADD, but the parents couldn't afford the medication. His grades continued to drop. Something that DID work for him was to put him in the hall to finish his work. He appreciated it because he just got so distracted with any movement in the room. You can set a timer in the
hallway, that ticks, so she can hear the time and keep her focused on the task. When she's in class try to keep her involved as much as possible. Say her name and ask her questions occasionally, or have her pass out papers, etc... Sometimes kids get bored and zone out to keep from acting out instead.
