above level behavior issues...
By Tracey

Clip to ScrapBook
I have one or two like this in my class. Knows all the answers, but constantly calling out before the others even process the question and just have no thought for others. I ended up doing a behavior chart where EVERY time
the child talks out or is off task, they cross out one of the boxes on one of those 20 box sticker charts. Our goal last week was keeping 5 boxes empty to put stickers in. He just BARELY made it, but he did it. I let the students I do this with choose a reasonable prize for achieving their goal...and next week's goal is harder to meet. I also make it so that each column is a day,
so he couldn't cross off stickers for the previous or next days, but after the four for the day were gone...he pulled sticks just like everyone else. It doesn't even take any extra time when you realize that not calling out and having to redirect that student as much means extra instructional time! Just a thought.
