When I first started teaching 7 years ago, I taught K in an urban school. When the music teacher came in at the beginning of every class she picked on student to be the "can man". This student was in charge of putting something
(they were long wooden things -- I'm not sure what) into the can. When they were behaving, she would just say "can man in" in between songs or whatever activities they were doing. When it got loud or if children didn't stay seated, she would simply say "can man out" If they had so many sticks (or whatever it was) in the can at the end of the class, they got a stamp on their hands

and she stamped a card that hung beside our light switch. When they earned so many stamps, they got some sort of reward. She was a very young teacher, but she did a wonderful job with those busy kindergarten students!
