No ... you have to let the parents know that you're there, and that you have their children's best interests in mind. I have found one of the best and easiest ways to establish this relationship you definitely need to have is to make positive phonecalls regularly (like every 6 weeks or so) to deliver some good news and open the lines of communication. Writing anything is always easier than TALKING ... but it's not personal and there are so many tones in writing that can easily be misread. Plus, when you make a habit of making good phone calls, the "bad phone calls" aren't nearly so bad.
