Me, too

School starts tomorrow, and I've also already had complaints. As I was working in my room on Thursday and Friday last week, parents were still registering students. When they came in to see the room, they met me, too. I was so excited to see them for the first time! But then I found out several mothers tried to get their children out of my class, not because I'm a first year teacher (which I am!), but because I'm white! They wanted their kids in the other first grade, where the teacher is black. It's an all black school (students), and there's only a handful of white teachers. Apparently, some of the parents don't want a white teacher teaching their children. I just blew it off. I mean, I CARE about all my students and will do everything I can to make their year an amazing one. I'll try my hardest to take into consideration their urban culture, but I can't change the color of my skin. The parents were just showing a level of ignorance, in my opinion.
