I have had wonderful aides and one aide who was horrible! The one thing I realized was the only one you can change is yourself. If an aide has been in a school for a long time, she/he can make your life very difficult. I would suggest writing down all problematic behavior on her/his part and how you handled it. You have to be very careful because the person may have a relationship with your supervisor (as mine did!). You may need to give it time, but within 6 weeks, I would report the problem to my supervisor. If needed, you may need to get your union involved. I would be very careful -- document, document, document. It took having the aide transferring, my supervisor retiring and another year to have a positive relationship with my principal and the new assistant principal. The situation was one of the most difficult in my 20 year teaching career. Be very careful!
