birthday board

In my classroom this year I am having each parent (at open house) paint their child's hand and make a handprint on a 6x6 inch piece of tag board. ( I like to make my open houses interactive) Next, I'm going to have them write the child's name and birthdate around the hand. Finally, I am going to punch holes in the corners and tie the aquares together to make it look like a big quilt. I thought it would be nice for the kids to see something at school that reminds them of the experince with their parents and each square would look just a little different.
