I know what you are dealing with

Joan,

I have been there and done that! I understand your frustration. You are indeed in for a long year. The only suggestion I can give you is to start using video tape as "documentation" for IEP progress. The taping can be useful in showing mastery of skills not able to be paper/pencil tested. It will also give you a meduim that would show the Para's disrespect for you and the students or... force them to do their jobs correctly. You could also tape your class as a way to improve your own teaching style, while giving you documentation of their behavior. The only thing else I can tell you is to document, document, document. Go to your principal, write a a personal growth plan and document the process. There really is no easy solution. Be strong.
