How about...

How about "being a silent movie", as opposed to showing one! Have a tape of acompanying music and kids act out a a "melodrama", other kids could sit in the audience and encourage the cheers and boo's. It could be kind of a "Dudley Do-Right" kind of thing, complete with villan, hero and damsel in distress!
