jungle
By Martha Mason

Clip to ScrapBook
I teach second grade and I'm doing a jungle theme this year also. I like to make crazy art projects so I made giant flower sculptures out of wire and white fabric. Here are brief instructions.
First shape 16 gauge wire
into a flower shape, I used hibiscus, lilly, orchids, and daisies, but it could be anything. Next cut out cheap white cotton fabric and cover the petals. Use fabric glue, fabri-tac works well because it dries quickly and holds the fabric in place so you can keep working. Paint the petals beautuful colors with fabric dye (If you paint the petals before you glue them then you do not see
light spots from the glue). I also use fabric paint to add dimension. You can use pipe cleaners or wooden dowels covered with pom poms for the stamen. I also painted clothesline rope green and twisted several strands together to create a vine. My flowers will hang from the vines around the ceiling. This project can take awhile to make. I have 17 flowers done and they all average 2-4 feet in diameter. The kids love walking in to see giant vibrant flowers all over the room! Let me know if you would like to see photos of the project. Good luck!
